Finding a physician who truly cares about his patients is a rare thing these days. Dr. Hines is an old school doctor who feels compassion, empathy and believes in listening to his patients insights. In addition to building rapport with his patients, he is a brilliant doctor who is direct and arms his patients with knowledge they need. His staff is the highest quality, professional, courteous and caring. They have gone above and beyond more than once. I moved to SC and still made the drive because this doctor and his staff have earned my trust. I am now moving to Kansas and will still be making the trip to Nova. No other doctor can compare when it comes to my long-term pain management care.
The staff was wonderful at this office. Dr. Hines however was rude and inconsiderate. I am young and have had back pain for 10 years. He basically told me I had mild scoliosis, laughed at me, and told me I didn't need pain management. All the while I don't even think he looked at the x-rays that were taken the same day. He dismissed me as a patient. I realize doctors probably see addicts all the time, but I think he prejudged me for being an addict instead of a person who is genuinely hurting on a constant basis. It was very humiliating and wouldn't recommend him!
Dr. Hines was great and he never pushed you through he would talk to you and listen to you and his staff is friendly and caring i moved and can only hope to find doctor half as good
Many years ago, before online reviews were a thing, I went to Dr. Hines for help. I was taking 6-8 percocet a day for my neck and back pain, physical therapy did nothing for me, and I went in there with the hopes that I could take fewer pills and manage my pain some other way that didn't involve obscene quantities of narcotics. I went in there NOT seeking more drugs. How many people go to pain management doctor after pain management doctor just seeking narcotics and opiod painkillers? I didn't want to be one of those people who could not function without opiods. Dr. Hines spoke to me like I was 5 years old, after I had been kind and courteous and concise in describing why I came to him, and told me that I was overweight and depressed and he couldn't do anything for me. I was in pain BEFORE putting on the extra weight and was on depression meds that were working. He sent me on my way with a TENS unit and a script for 150 percocet which was the exact opposite of what I wanted. I felt terrible when I left there, like I wasn't worthy of getting help for my pain. I cried all the way home and was so angry that I'd been dismissed completely and so condescendingly. I then went on to have to use a Fentanyl patch until I maxxed out on that dosage, and then ended up on 20mg of oxycontin until I didn't need it anymore. What a disappointment of a doctor and a human being.
I have been at Nova for 7 years and I am satisfied with the care. The Dr is Hines and he prefers the old school methods....listens to his patients. We like to talk about how things are changing in the world but he is a very smart man. I went for back pain and he noticed some changes in my weight and stomach pain. He told me to call my PCP. I did and found out that I had cancer, they caught it in the early stage. Thank you Dr Hines. I know a good man when I see one. And I'm still go in to him!
