Dr. Check is good, easy going. One of the better pediatricians. The check in staff was less than acceptable.
I went on the antidepressant, but it made me feel miserable and did not help my pain. At this point, I started also struggling to walk and work my part time job, where I had to stand for several hours straight. I eventually developed an allergic reaction to the antidepressant and had to stop it.
It tooks years to recover from the damage that doctor did and I still can't go to the Carolina East doctors because they read her notes and refuse to update my medical records (which now have accurate information about my health.) After many years of getting progressively more sick and ending up in a wheelchair full time, I've been diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder, a motility condition of the GI tract, a thyroid condition, a neurological condition affecting my autonomic nervous system, and an immunological condition.
This place is awesome!!! Dr. Whaley is hands down the BEST doctor there. He's so caring and patient! He's taken care of my daughter since she was born now she's 8, and his level of care has not changed at all! Scale from 1-10 he's a 10 for sure! I just can't say enough about him. The staff all around is fantastic but he really is the best doctor
When I went to this doctor a year and a half later, who was my PCP, it was because I had managed to stop my suicidal thoughts and self harming by discussing it with a therapist, but in the mean time had noticed some very concerning symptoms. As a 15 year old, I struggled to type, write, playing my instruments, or do any sort of strenuous activity with my hands. My joints in my wrists, hands, and elbows hurt a lot and popped loudly, they got red and inflamed, and ached all the time. This chronic wrist pain had been going on for years, but it finally got to the point where I needed to see the doctor because I was falling behind in school and struggling to do daily life tasks like opening water bottles or lifting a jar of milk.
Dr. Riley is great! The rest of the staff is friendly and helpful. My children have been coming here for years. We left for a year and missed this office terribly. So glad to have you all back!
I went to see a doctor here when I was 15. Over a year and a half earlier I had been hospitalized for suicidal ideation, self harm, and panic attacks, but the psychologists could not diagnose me with any mental health condition because they felt that there did not seem to be a mental health cause.
I also started vomiting randomly throughout the month, getting sudden bouts of "the stomach flu" and not being able to hold down food for several days. I got sick with some sort of cold nearly every week. The migraines I had had since I was a 8 years old had progressed to the point where our house was kept dark and I couldn't be in the car for too long due to motion sickness.
Love these folks! Never had any issues and always felt like they were looking out for our kids. We switched over when my oldest (now 21) was 5 yrs. old and my youngest (now 15) has never gone to a different pediatrician group. Everyone is always so nice and the doctors are great. :)
Dr. Check should get 5 stars.
When we went to my doctor with all these complaints, she seemed to care. She diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia (without checking any trigger points), gave me a script to an antidepressant, and sent to me a rheumatologist. When we pressed her further, she offered to run some tests, but told us they would come back normal.
Check in staff should get 1 star.
When we went back to read the notes from this doctor we found that she had written that she did NOT believe I was sick with anything, but that I merely had depression, and that she was just telling me I had Fibro, but was prescribing an antidepressant in hopes of tricking me into taking it. She also wrote that I was not in pain and had merely been lying to my mom in order to get sympathy!
When I finally got in to see the rheumatologist he instantly ruled out Fibromyalgia as I did not present with all the symptoms, and ran more tests, but found nothing of value. After being tossed around between my Rhuemy and my PCP we switched PCPs and got the records from this office.
Had I stayed with this office and not switched PCPs who knows if they ever would have found out what was wrong with me, or what horrible things would have happened, seeing as they were not willing to give me the proper care.
